As filmmakers, we wanted to contribute to storytelling during the coronavirus pandemic. But in the early days of the pandemic, we were unsure of how to start; we hadn’t yet considered how to film people safely. We were interested in how kids were processing this time – we are parents of young children – and thought we could ask them to share their perspective through interview and illustration. We put a call out to our local Capitol Hill parents’ listserv, asking kids K-5 to imagine and draw themselves as superheroes in the COVID-19 world using comic strips as the medium. We collected their illustrations, scanned and animated them, and asked them to narrate their stories. What resulted is this heartwarming story about how the keys to defeating the coronavirus might just be quick-thinking medical minds, simple public health measures, and kindness. Below is the piece, and all of the comics we collected, not all of which we were able to include.
